Albania is a beautiful and unique country. It has mountains, beaches, kind people, good food, and a mix of old and new. If you’re planning a trip here, there are a few things you should know to make your journey easier and more fun. 1. Bring Cash With You Even though Albania is growing fast and many places in Tirana accept cards, this is not the case everywhere. Small cafés, shops, and markets mostly take cash, especially outside the capital. If you plan to visit villages or smaller towns, always carry enough cash with you.   2. Albanians Are Very Helpful If you ever get lost or need help, don’t be afraid to ask. Albanians are known for being friendly and caring. Many times, people will come to help even before you ask. Drivers in Albania don’t always follow the rules, and traffic can seem wild. But don’t worry too much, locals somehow understand each other and rarely get angry while driving.   4. A warm jacket is enough for winter, and in the summer, light clothes and a bottle of water will keep you comfortable. No need to overpack!   6. Know Where You Want to Go Albania offers different things depending on where you go: • For mountains and nature, visit the north (like the Albanian Alps). • For history and culture, visit cities like Shkoder, Kruje, Berat, and Gjirokastra. • For beautiful beaches, go southwest to the Albanian Riviera. • For city life, stay in Tirana, which is in the center of the country.   7. Book Early in Summer Tourism is growing fast in Albania, but there are still not enough hotels and restaurants—especially in summer. If you’re traveling between June and September, book your rooms and dinner spots as early as you can.   8. Don’t Drink Tap Water In some countries, tap water is safe to drink. In Albania, it’s not. Always buy bottled water to drink and use tap water only for washing or brushing your teeth.   9. English Is Spoken Often You don’t need to worry too much about language. Most young Albanians speak good English. Even older people may not speak it perfectly, but they will still try to help. You can usually get your message across without much trouble.   10. Bus Travel Is Difficult If you want to travel by bus, plan very carefully. Buses in Albania are few, often late, and not always in the best condition. There are not many signs or clear timetables. It’s best to ask locals or book ahead if you can. Albania is a hidden gem in Europe. It’s full of charm, adventure, and warm-hearted people.
