Highly recommend visiting this magical spot and enjoying the stunning views. There’s a 30-minute hike to a viewpoint, which I did with my 4.5-year-old son—he loved it and thought it was both beautiful and adventurous. I checked with the homestay and restaurant owner before heading up for advice. It’s doable with little ones, but careful supervision is a must. We stayed one night at Lake Bovilla, as that was all that was available. If we return, we’d definitely spend three nights to fully enjoy this fantastic place.

This artificial lake, perched at around 1000 m in the mountains, is definitely worth a visit. You can reach it via a coach track using a 4×4 or SUV. There’s a high-altitude restaurant and bar nearby, and a short walk from there leads to a suspended platform...perfect for capturing stunning photos.

Full description

Leave the busy streets of Tirana behind and spend a day surrounded by nature on this guided excursion and picnic day to Lake Bovilla and Gamti Mountain. Begin with pickup from your accommodation, followed by a pleasant drive through Albania’s rural countryside, passing farmland, small villages, and scenic mountain landscapes.

Arrive at Lake Bovilla and admire its striking blue waters framed by rugged cliffs and untouched wilderness. After a short introduction to the area, continue with a guided walk toward the Gamti Mountain viewpoint. Along the way, hear stories about the region’s environment, local traditions, and the importance of the lake to the surrounding communities.

The hiking trail gradually climbs above the lake, offering constantly changing views as you gain elevation. With several stops to rest and take photos, the walk remains enjoyable and accessible for most travelers. Reaching the viewpoint rewards you with sweeping panoramas over the lake and mountains, an ideal place to relax, take photos, and appreciate Albania’s natural beauty.

After, return downhill and spend some time near the nearby river area. Here you may cool off by the water, relax in nature, or simply enjoy the peaceful atmosphere. Swimming in Lake Bovilla itself is not allowed, but the river provides a refreshing alternative for those who wish to get closer to the water.

Before heading back to Tirana, enjoy free time to have a meal at a local restaurant or have a snack break at your leisure. Conclude your tour with a comfortable drive back to the city, leaving you with lasting memories of one of the most scenic areas near Tirana.

    A mountain escape

We spent a beautiful day here. The experience is truly rewarding, but be prepare, it’s physically demanding. You need to be fit and ready, but every step is worth it.

    Breathtaking vistas

A lovely lake with stunning views, though the journey isn’t easy—a long stretch of gravel road awaits. The climb to the viewpoint is challenging, especially with young children, but the breathtaking panorama makes every step worth it!

    A quick escape from Tirana

One of my favorite spots near Tirana, just 20 km from the capital. The hike isn’t long—even for those who don’t usually hike and the view from the top is absolutely worth it.
